A Journey Fueled by Family and Determination

Rachel Choice’s journey into the world of martial arts began in 2018, just a few months after graduating from college. At the age of 22, her path

took an unexpected turn thanks to her grandfather’s influence. “My grandfather is the reason why I ever stepped foot into a National Karate

school,” Rachel recalls. Their routine of working together at his shop, mowing the lawn, and enjoying lunches at McDonald’s led to a conversation that would change her life. Concerned for her safety as she pursued a career in the film and television industry, her grandfather urged her to learn self-defense. This led Rachel to discover the National Karate Aurora location, where she took her first Krav Maga class in June 2018.

Although Rachel started her training with the National Karate Krav Maga classes she saw how fun the Karate/Martial Arts Classes looked and got inspired to earn a Black Belt! She now holds a 2nd Degree Black Belt and is eligible to test for her 3rd Degree in June 2026. Her journey to becoming a skilled martial artist wasn’t just about physical training; it was also about personal growth and resilience. “Earning my 1st Degree Black Belt is truly one of the most impactful and meaningful milestones of my entire life,” she shares.

However, Mr. Mazzola saw potential in her and encouraged her to reconsider. Once she earned her Brown Belt and the school reopened post-Covid, Rachel decided to give it a try. This decision transformed her perspective and career trajectory, leading her to become a full instructor.

Her passion for empowerment is reflected in her teaching philosophy. The word “Empower” is tattooed on her right wrist, symbolizing her commitment to helping others realize their potential. Rachel’s goal is to ensure that every student leaves her classroom knowing they can achieve their goals and become the best version of themselves.

Cherished Memories and Supportive Family

One of Rachel’s most treasured memories is sharing the Diamond Nationals experience with her mother. As a lifelong athlete, Rachel’s mother has always been her number one supporter. “She has attended every belt exam, every segment test, and every tournament,” Rachel fondly recalls. The road trip to Minnesota, shopping at the Mall of America, and her mother’s unwavering support during the competition are memories that Rachel holds dear. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the journey and the people who support you matter more than the trophies and accolades.
