KRAV MAGA
SELF-DEFENSE

LIFE SAVING SELF-DEFENSE & FITNESS WITH KRAV MAGA

Krav Maga, pronounced “krav mahGAH,” is a combat and self-defense method that is efficient, cutting-edge, and extremely dynamic. It is intended to be useful and easy to understand for people of many ages, body types, and sizes. The tactics you learn in Krav Maga self-defense classes build on your innate instincts to help you develop abilities rapidly and efficiently, and they provide you the ability to defend yourself against attacks in a wide variety of contexts. You will develop enhanced awareness as well as reflexes that are more natural to you as you learn how to defend yourself and the people you care about.

Krav Maga, which translates to “contact combat” in Hebrew, is a combat system formed in the 1950s by merging the best successful strategies, philosophies, and methods from various fighting styles and martial arts. The Israeli Army was the first group to get education in it; civilians did not start receiving it until the late 1970s. Today, there are many other applications of Krav Maga, including military, law enforcement (to apprehend or hold suspects), and civilian self-defense. Krav Maga classes can be valuable to your physical and mental health. Consider taking these excellent self-defense classes if you are considering adult martial arts.

Why Should I Commit to Training in Krav Maga?

Krav Maga classes will teach you about pure self-defense through the use of striking and evasion. We teach Krav Maga self-defense to help our students learn to better protect themselves. Krav Maga helps us ensure we will live through the most dire of circumstances. If someone is threatening your life, we train on how to prevent that scenario to begin with, and if it has already passed the point where there is no turning back, we are prepared to use the most effective strikes and tactics to triumph when we are under a great deal of stress.

There is no complicated choreography. We do not practice Krav Maga to pick fights or impress other people. We train in order to preserve not only our own lives but also the lives of others we hold dear. We practice Krav Maga “so that one may walk in peace,” as the movement’s founder, Imi Litchenfeld, famously said.

Is Krav Maga Good For Beginners?

Because Krav Maga self-defense classes focus on teaching skills that are applicable in real life rather than teaching complicated maneuvers or sequences, this martial art is excellent for novices. Krav Maga classes place emphasis on natural motions and straightforward self-defense methods that are simple to pick up and can be applied in a variety of settings.

What Are the Origins of Krav Maga?

Krav Maga was invented in Czechoslovakia in the 1930s by Imi Lichtenfeld whre he originally taught his fighting method in Bratislava in order to assist in protecting the local Jewish population from the Nazi militia. Krav Maga is now the self-defense system used by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) which is considered to be one of the most effective special forces units in the world. Before the year 1980, every single Krav Maga instructor called Israel home and received their instruction from the Israeli Krav Maga Association. In that year, Israeli Krav Maga professionals and interested pupils in the United States started communicating with one another for the first time.

In 1981, a group of six teachers of Krav Maga came to the United States to show their methods. Both the FBI’s New York field office and its primary training facility in Quantico, Virginia took notice of it and voiced their interest in it. As a direct result of this, 22 people from the United States traveled to Israel during the summer of 1981 in order to participate in basic Krav Maga self-defense classes.

After completing their adult martial arts classes, participants returned to the United States and immediately began establishing new educational institutions in their home communities. Additional students made the trip to Israel in 1984 and then again in 1986 in order to complete their training as teachers there. During this period, teachers hailing from Israel continued to make trips to the United States.

The year 1985 marked the beginning of law enforcement training in the United States. Many law enforcement agencies in the United States now use Krav Maga classes as their primary method of hand-to-hand combat instruction.

Today National Karate is certified and trained by the Krav Maga Association of America who is trained directly by the Chief Commanders and Head Instructors of the Israeli Defense Forces as well as the top security, and Counter-Terrorism Instructors of the IDF. The Chief Commander of the IDF for Krav Maga is in charge of ALL hand to hand combat taught within the entire Israeli Military, including the elite forces, Israeli Police and Special Forces Instructors. You can be sure that your National Karate Krav Maga instructors know what they are doing and can help you reach your goals.

What Will You Learn From Krav Maga?

How much will you benefit from Krav maga? Is this the right martial art for you? Here is what you can learn from taking Krav Maga self-defense classes:

  • You become skilled at maintaining composure, taking command of your own fear, and use it to your benefit during combat.
  • You will have the mental preparation necessary to engage in hand-to-hand fighting against an adversary of any size.
  • You will be able to put a stop to an attack very fast, which will give you the opportunity to flee to safety.
  • You will successfully vanquish an adversary and render them unable to continue their assault.
  • You will quickly see how simple the training is and why the Krav Maga method of self-defense is so well-liked.

Do You Wear a Gi in Krav Maga?

There is no gi or special uniform for Krav Maga. Instead, we recommend that you come in the most comfortable gym-style clothing that allows flexibility and ease of movement. Krav Maga is meant to be applicable to your daily life, so it’s best to practice in a variety of different clothes you are likely to wear on the street.

Is Krav Maga Striking or Grappling?

Krav Maga instructs its students in a variety of striking methods, including punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. In addition, Krav Maga instructs grappling skills and situation-specific self-defense moves, with the final aim of the defender being to inflict sufficient harm on the aggressor to bring a stop to the encounter. However, Krav Maga is primarily focused on striking and escape.

What Are the Key Principles of Krav Maga?

There are several key principles you will learn in our self-defense classes. These include:

  • Find out what the immediate threat is.
  • Make use of the natural response that your body provides.
  • Maintain your defenses while simultaneously mounting a counterattack.
  • When launching a counterattack, you should focus on striking weak points aggressively.
  • It does not matter how big or strong a person is; the techniques will work.

These tenets are the foundation for every facet of the Krav Maga training system. By always adhering to the same principles, Krav Maga is both simple to learn and to remember after it is mastered. Students learn a single defense that may be used against a variety of threats. Students will, ultimately, need to recall fewer specifics and will be able to deploy systemic action in order to fight back and prevail if they are attacked.

When coping with some of the most terrifying forms of assault and attack, such as those in which the assailant is equipped with a firearm, a knife, or a blunt object, this becomes an extremely crucial consideration. People who train in Krav Maga are better prepared to handle these types of threats in the real world as a result of the military roots of the system. If you are looking for genuine self-defense classes that you can take as an adult, consider Krav Maga when you look for adult martial arts classes.

When I first heard about training in Krav Maga I was intrigued. So I gave it a try. After attending a trial class I was hooked. The workouts are great and the self-defense techniques, easy to remember and a lot of common sense. Thanks to the great staff at National Karate & Kickboxing!

We started Krav Maga together as a couple at National Karate & Kickboxing and have loved every minute of it. Krav Maga is an awesome workout and great way to learn self-defense. When we started Krav Maga, we had never done anything like this, but the mix of beginners and more advance students allowed us to fit right in. The instructors at National Karate take the time to make sure the beginners are doing the moves correctly while continuing to challenge those with more experience. KRAV MAGA!

I was invited to try Krav Maga so I decided to check it out. My initial motivation was to get a little extra exercise in my life. But the Krav Maga classes have given me much more. In addition to getting stronger and in better shape, Krav Maga has given me more confidence as I learn additional self-defense techniques. One thing that I learned, that I did not expect, was how enjoyable the classes are and that the more classes I take, the more fun they become.
